The Dante meeting concludes on Friday and we have see some good quality competitive action so far and I am hoping the final day will be the same. The first race is an ultra competitive 2 yr old fillies sprint and it’s not usually a race I would get involved with but I do like the chances of Yahsat and with 5 places on offer from Hills I am happy to have a bet. The race is full of lightly raced fillies with potential but Yahsat has already ran to a decent level having been touched off in a decent looking maiden at Newmarket (a few she beat re-oppose here) where she was sent off a warm 8/1 and then followed up in a small field at Pontefract where the well beaten third and fourth have both won since. I do think the higher draws will have a slight advantage as there seems to be a lot of pace there, including the selection who could try to make it and the two leading the market are both drawn low. I’m only betting a small stake each-way but she does interest me at the price.
The other selection is another where it is more of a slightly speculative wager, a roll of the dice perhaps! (Apolgies). Rolling The Dice has some of the best two year old form on offer here with her May Hill third behind leading two year old filly Inspiral and also top filly Prosperous Voyage who has since gone close in the 1000 Guineas. She won a maiden nicely before that, comfortably in fact with the quick ground suiting her and that the step up to a mile would suit and despite being sent off at 80/1 showed she has ability in the Group 2 May Hill. Grande Dame is favourite at the moment and was impressive but is another this week who is priced up on reputation rather than form shown and although I am not sure about the fitness of Rolling The Dice first time out for a trainer that doesn’t have many horses she looks too big to ignore, again with some nice place terms on offer.
In the 3pm handicap I think Rogue Bear is the solid option but he’s up in trip and although he’s shaped like he will appreciate it at 3/1 it is just too short for me. There’s a fair bit of pace on so it might take some getting. If he wins so be it, and there are too many question marks about others so no bet.
The main race of the day is up next and Stradivarius is a tremendous horse who I have taken on many times when he’s been a short price and he’s made me look like a mug. He is 8 now though and although there is no Trueshan here I am happy to try once more and back Search For A Song who is fit and will have her optimum conditions over 1m 6f on good ground. She won on debut but has tended to need a run, however she was still a good second at Navan last time in a decent Listed race. She gets weight from all runners and the fact she has been kept in training at the age of 6 must mean that connections are happy she still has good races to win this season. Thunderous should ensure it is a fair gallop despite the small field and at the prices happy to have a bet on her.
In the 4.45pm race there is only 11lbs from top to bottom covering the 20 runners in what looks a very competitive race. I do like the claims of Outrun The Storm though who put a bad run at Leicester behind him when a tight second off this mark at Chelmsford. His form figures at York are 1 win (off 73) and a second and fifth both off 2lbs higher than here, and both good runs. Generally the pace is high and he is in 7 but it is likely Muntadab will go off quickest from stall 1 so if he can get a nice tow in from him it will be fine.
Over at Newbury in the 2.05 I like the angle of Able Kane dropping back in trip in a race that doesn’t look like it has a whole lot of pace in it. He’s ran well enough in a couple of race and although he’s been dropped a pound he might still be too harshly handicapped but I do think he will get his own way here and at the price
