There are some good races on Saturday despite us getting ever closer to the Festival and I have to admit my form study has now started. The weather isn’t mean to be great, but certainly better than Friday when on Kelso made it through the storm.
My main bet of the day will be in the Grand National Trial at Haydock where The Galloping Bear should go close. This fella is 3 from 3 over fences under rules and put in a tremendous effort in terrible conditions in the Surrey National under top weight last time. He’s only gone up 5lbs for that and is in a tougher race but some of his rivals I imagine will have longer term targets, maybe even the Grand National but The Galloping Bear will try to continue his trainers terrific form. I really like this horses attitude and he is tried and tested in the conditions. I do like Secret Reprive but he is too short, and Lord Du Mesnil who we backed last time should be in the mix but The Galloping Bear looks a more than fair price.
In the 3.15pm race Flashjack is getting on now and certainly is not progressing, but he is well below his last winning mark and is a CD winner in heavy ground. They sent him off at 6/1 last time in a similar event at Chepstow but the winner romped home that day and he was disappointing. This is more speculative but everything is in his favour so he might outrun his odds.
